Air fryers have become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason. They offer a healthier alternative to traditional deep frying, allowing you to enjoy crispy, delicious food with less oil and fat.
However, throughout my extensive research in choosing a the safest non-toxic air fryer, it is important to limit your exposure to harmful chemicals like PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic acid) and PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), which can be present in the lining of the baskets or the interior of the air fryer walls. These chemicals are derived from perfluorinated compounds and can seriously harm human health.
PFOAs, for example, have been linked to various health problems, including cancer, liver disease, and developmental problems. Similarly, PTFE is a toxic substance that can release harmful fumes when heated at high temperatures, leading to flu-like symptoms, respiratory distress, and other extreme illnesses.
With so many air fryers on the market, it can be challenging to choose the best non-toxic air fryer for your needs. Many manufacturers will disguise disclosing the material of the coating making it difficult to find the safest air fryer. That’s why I’ve done the research for you and compiled a list of the 10 best non-toxic air fryers available today.
For those of you with small kitchens, apartments, and too many appliances on the counter, we also included some non-toxic air fryer/multi cookers to help you clear up your kitchen counter while still getting maximum air fryer functionality.

Non-Toxic Air Fryer #3:
Ninja FD401, Foodi 12-in-1 XL
If you like pressure cooking but also like some crispness to your food, this is the unit for you. After a ton of research, I ended up choosing this unit for my family. I love the large capacity, easy-to-clean ceramic pot and basket, and the many functions the Foodi offers. It was a great option for me since I didn’t want both a pressure cooker and air fryer crowding the counter. It was the “all-in-one” best air fryer without Teflon, utilizing a ceramic pot instead which has held up very well through MANY uses.
We use this unit daily, both for air frying and pressure cooking. I can’t believe all of the things that can actually be cooked amazingly in the Foodi, from green beans, to rice, to chicken, and sweet potatoes, the Foodi seems to do it all, and well too!
This non-toxic air fryer is made of a ceramic basket and is PTFE PFOA-free, nonstick, and dishwasher safe. It is not only a safe air fryer, but also versatile and functional.
Advisory Details:
This unit comes with two lids. The air fryer lid is attached to the unit, while the pressure cooking lid must be stored when not in use. Make sure you have a place to put it, since it will take up cabinet space. It is a heavy unit, but I like that feature because it stays put when you’re sauteing before a pressure or frying session.

Non Toxic Air Fryers FAQ
Are air fryers healthy?
Air fryers can be a healthier alternative to traditional deep frying because they use hot air to cook food instead of oil. This can significantly reduce the amount of fat and calories in the food, making it a healthier option for those who are watching their weight or trying to eat a healthier diet.
Additionally, some studies have suggested that air frying can create potentially harmful compounds called acrylamides, especially when cooking starchy foods like potatoes. Therefore, it’s important to practice moderation and balance in your diet and to choose whole, nutrient-dense foods whenever possible. When searching for a safe air fryer, it’s essential to consider factors such as materials used, that are made from food-safe materials, such as BPA-free plastics and stainless steel.
What are some best practices for cleaning an air fryer?
Here are some tips for cleaning an air fryer:
- Wait for the air fryer to cool down: Before cleaning the air fryer, make sure that it has cooled down completely to avoid any potential accidents.
- Unplug the air fryer: It’s important to unplug the air fryer from the power source before starting to clean it.
- Clean the basket and tray: Remove the basket and tray from the air fryer and wash them in warm soapy water. You can also use a non-abrasive sponge or brush to scrub any stubborn stains or residue.
- Use a damp cloth to clean the interior: Wipe the interior of the air fryer with a damp cloth or sponge. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that could damage the non-stick coating. For air fryers without non stick coating, soaking it will help to loosen debris.
- Clean the heating element: Use a soft-bristled brush or a cloth to gently clean the heating element. Make sure that it’s completely dry before using the air fryer again.
- Reassemble the air fryer: Once everything is clean and dry, reassemble the air fryer and store it in a safe place.
It’s important to clean your air fryer regularly to prevent any buildup of grease or food residue that could affect the performance of the appliance. Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific cleaning instructions for your particular air fryer model.
What is BPA? Is it common in air fryers?
BPA (Bisphenol A) is a chemical used in the production of some plastics, such as polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. BPA is known to be an endocrine disruptor, which means it can interfere with the body’s hormonal system, potentially leading to negative health effects.
BPA is not typically found in air fryers themselves, but it may be present in some of the accessories that come with the air fryer, such as cooking baskets or trays. It’s important to look for a safe air fryer that is BPA-free to minimize your exposure to this harmful chemical. Many manufacturers now make air fryers with BPA-free materials, so it’s a good idea to read the product specifications before making a purchase.
What is PFOA? Is it common in air fryers?
PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic acid) is a synthetic chemical that has been used in the production of non-stick coatings, such as Teflon. PFOA has been linked to various health risks, including cancer, and has been phased out of use in many industries due to its potential harm.
While PFOA was commonly used in the production of non-stick coatings in the past, many manufacturers have switched to alternative coatings that are free from PFOA. Air fryers that use non-stick coatings, such as Teflon, may have contained PFOA in the past, but it is unlikely to be present in newer models.
To ensure that you’re using a PFOA-free safe air fryer, it’s important to look for products that explicitly state that they are PFOA-free. Many manufacturers now make air fryers with ceramic or diamond-infused non-stick coatings that are free from PFOA, making them a safer and healthier option for cooking.
What is PTFE? Is it common in air fryers?
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is a synthetic fluoropolymer that is used in the production of non-stick coatings, such as Teflon. While PTFE is generally considered safe, it can release toxic fumes when heated to high temperatures, which can pose a health risk to humans and pets.
PTFE has been commonly used in the production of non-stick coatings in the past, including in some air fryers. However, many manufacturers have switched to alternative non-stick coatings that are free from PTFE, in response to health concerns.
To ensure that you’re using a PTFE-free air fryer, it’s important to look for products that explicitly state that they are PTFE-free. Many newer air fryers now use ceramic or diamond-infused non-stick coatings, which are free from PTFE and are considered a safer and healthier option for cooking.
